So much of the media that is seen surrounding the bodies of transgender women is within a pornographic setting. The fetishization of trans women is inescapable. When I embarked on this journey, I had a simple vision— to display the nude, trans-feminine body outside of pornography. But the piece became so much more than this, particularly with panels V-VI. Although I’m rejecting my body as a sexual object, I still wish to embrace my sexuality. Sexuality does not need to be perverted, and I wish to celebrate my own experiences. I hope that through my art, a viewer— especially one who has not seen the nude trans-fem body in this context— can walk away with a new perspective.
